Harness’s script ticks all the requisite boxes, presenting us with an outlandish mystery, terrifying spider-like creatures - arachnophobes, you have been warned! - and a moral dilemma which pitches Clara and space shuttle Captain Lundvik on opposite sides of an argument which will be anything but black-and-white, with no quick solution.
The resolution has long-lasting ramifications for both Clara’s relationship with the Doctor and Courtney’s future that takes care of the latter’s story arc beautifully. And you will never look at the moon the same way again.
Peter Capaldi continues to delight being an unpredictable Tweflth Doctor, but yet again this is Jenna Coleman’s episode as she carries the full emotional and dramatic weight of the story. Against all expectations, Clara’s journey and her relationship with the physician have become my favourite since the days of the Seventh Doctor’s companion Ace.
